He's one of the few artists to successfully blend electro and dubstep to form some new genre that leans towards dubstep by keeping the original 140bpm (give or take) 2-step rhythm, but with more upbeat drum pattern arrangements that gives the energy of electro along with electro synths that are used in between the dubstep basses to create a kind of electro dubstep variety - electrostep much?
The artist with the closest sound to Skrillex that i know of would probably be Feed Me. He also makes Electro inspired dubstep and standard electro. He just released his new album, Feed Me's Big Adventure, on Mau5trap - like Skrillex did.
